Graboplast Zrt.
Subject and objective of the development
Technology development at the Győr plant of Graboplast Plc.
Contracted amount of support
102 097 506 Ft
Detailed description of the project
Graboplast aims to compensate for the loss of British market turnover by expanding in other export markets. The main technical component of the development is the expansion and modernization of the drive control system of the current flooring production line, through the acquisition of a new device: a PLC-controlled product tension regulator. Additionally, laptops will be purchased as part of the IT development. With the integration of the PLC regulator, the product portfolio can include thinner products that are more sensitive to mechanical impacts during production. This project represents a significant advancement for Graboplast, as it has so far been unable to achieve substantial waste recycling for products based on lubrication technology. As a result of the project, the company’s production line in Győr will be capable of producing wear layers thinner than 0.3 mm, which will be used in the manufacturing of residential LVT types at the Tatabánya plant.

Project description
As part of the Project, a new homogeneous and LVT product family has been developed, featuring a surface with antibacterial properties thanks to a newly formulated special lacquer additive, while fully complying with all standard flooring requirements. Within the framework of the Project, both the additive and the manufacturing and application technologies of the flooring were developed. In addition, the products were successfully introduced to the market.

Description
The investment was completed with a budget of nearly HUF 600 million, of which HUF 235 million was provided as state support. The approximately 600-square-meter facility primarily processes production waste and defective products. The project was realized as a result of several years of preparatory work, based on Graboplast’s proprietary patented technology. Through a special grinding process, production waste and defective PVC flooring are shredded, cooled to nearly minus 100 degrees Celsius using liquid nitrogen, and then ground into powder as the material reaches glass-like hardness. This powder can then be reintegrated into finished products. An additional advantage of the process is that it allows the company to reduce its ecological footprint, significantly lowering environmental impact through recycling. The grinding facility is not only environmentally beneficial but also an economically viable and quickly repayable investment. In addition to the labels “heavy metal-free”, “solvent-free”, and “phthalate-free”, Graboplast can now rightfully be referred to as a company employing “low-waste technologies”. The new products produced so far have been very well received by the market. The investment has also created nine new jobs.

Development of a sports flooring with enhanced health protection properties
Amount of support granted for the project

Rate of support
48,15%
Project description
The aim of the project was to develop a sports flooring product family that, by exceeding standard tolerance levels, provides comprehensive health protection functions not only for adult athletes but also for younger, lighter users. To achieve this, it was necessary to primarily develop the sport-specific properties (force reduction, vertical deformation, etc.) and surface characteristics (embossing pattern, embossing depth, protective coating, etc.). In the first phase of the experimental work, a new high-performance foam system was developed. During laboratory tests, we successfully created flooring structures by modifying the composition and construction of several – partly foamed, partly solid – layers. These structures achieved the desired improved effect under industrial conditions with only minor adjustments to our existing production line settings. Simultaneously, surface development work was carried out. Based on market feedback, a significant shift in the sports flooring sector has been observed, with strong demand for a distinctly matte yet more durable surface, while also meeting maximum standards for safety and health protection (slip resistance min./max. values) and maintenance requirements (especially cleanability, stain resistance, etc.). Another key focus of the experimental work was the development and applicability of a new UV lacquer system tailored to these requirements. To implement this, the production line was equipped with an integrated coating unit, a high-performance monochrome (UV) laser pre-curing lamp, and an inert gas (nitrogen) atmosphere system. Based on preliminary lab tests, a multi-stage industrial trial was conducted, during which we developed every element of the product family (6.0 mm, 6.7 mm, 8.0 mm, 10.3 mm thickness), determined the mixing technologies for the new plastisols (composition, rotation speed, cycle time, etc.), the layering instructions for the coating line (weight, machine speed, temperature, etc.), the surface lacquer quality (layer weight, temperature, friction, gap size, etc.), and the crosslinking parameters.
